Detailed Itinerary – What to Do in Tangier in One Day
1. 08:30 – Breakfast at Grand Socco & People-Watching
Start at Place du Grand Socco (officially Place 9 Avril 1947). Grab coffee and fresh msemen (Moroccan pancakes) or a full breakfast at Café Gran Socco or Café Central.
This huge square is where old Tangier meets new — watch locals rushing to work, women in colorful djellabas, and street vendors.
2. 09:30–11:30 – Explore the Medina & Kasbah (The Heart of Tangier)
Enter the medina through Bab Fahs gate and dive into the maze:
- Petit Socco – the famous square of artists and writers (Beat Generation hangout).
- American Legation Museum (free entry) – the oldest U.S. diplomatic building outside America.
- Climb to the Kasbah – stunning views over the Strait of Gibraltar and Spain on clear days.
- Kasbah Museum inside the former sultan’s palace (30 MAD).
- Walk the ramparts for epic photos.
Pro tip: The medina is hilly — wear comfortable shoes!
3. 11:30–13:00 – Café Hafa & (Optional) Caves of Hercules
Walk or take a quick taxi (15–20 MAD) to legendary Café Hafa (opened 1921). Tiered terraces overlooking the sea, mint tea served with ocean breeze — this is pure Tangier magic. Celebrities from The Rolling Stones to Hendrix loved it.
If you have energy, continue 5 minutes to the Caves of Hercules (60 MAD entry) — mythical caves with a window shaped like Africa.
4. 13:00–14:30 – Lunch in the Medina
Top recommendations (all authentic & loved by locals):
- El Morocco Club (stylish, great fixed-price menu)
- Le Saveur du Poisson – famous grilled fish restaurant (reservation recommended)
- Restaurant Populaire Saveur de Poisson – cheaper alternative, same owner
- Street food: Try brochettes or a harira soup if you’re on a budget.
5. 14:30–16:30 – Cap Spartel & Atlantic Beaches
Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic!
- Cap Spartel Lighthouse – stunning views (10-min taxi from Café Hafa).
- Relax at Achakkar Beach or Sidi Kacem Beach — camel rides available!
- Optional: Stop at the gorgeous Perdicaris Park (Rmilat Forest) for shade.
6. 16:30–18:00 – Shopping or Beach Time
Back in town:
- Hunt for souvenirs in the medina (leather bags, babouche slippers, argan oil, ceramics).
- Bargain politely — start at 50% of the first price!
- Or just relax on the newly renovated Tangier Corniche promenade.
7. Sunset – The Golden Hour
Return to Café Hafa or book a rooftop like El Morocco Club or Hotel Continental for sunset drinks with Spain in the distance.
8. Evening – Dinner & Nightlife
- Dar Lidam – beautiful riad restaurant with live Andalusian music
- Le Nabab – Moroccan-French fusion
- Walk the marina at night — Tangier feels totally safe and vibrant in 2025.
Alternative: If You Only Have 4–6 Hours (Cruise Ship Day)
- Grand Socco → Medina & Kasbah (2h)
- Café Hafa + quick photo at Hercules Caves (1.5h)
- Lunch at Le Saveur du Poisson (1h)
- Cap Spartel on the way back to port (1h)
