Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erg Chebbi Dunes.
In the early morning, we will leave Fez towards Merzouga via a number of beautiful cities and Berber villages. Our first stop will be Ifran or “the Switzerland of Morocco”. In this beautiful city, you will have some free time to enjoy its magnificent gardens as well as take memorial pictures near a sculpted lion which stands as an important monument inside the city. As we leave Ifrane, our second stop will be the cedar forests of Azrou whose monkeys add a touch to the beauty of the place. After that we will continue to Midelt, a Berber village famous for apple production, where we will have lunch. As you finish lunch, we will head to Merzouga over Tizi-n-Talremt pass, Ziz Valley and a number of villages such as Rich, a small Berber village marks the end of the high Atlas mountains, Errachidia, the main city of the region, and Erfoud, which is famous for its date festival and fossils shops. In the evening, we will be at the doors of Merzouga. Night will be spent in the hotel.
Day 2: Merzouga – Hassi labied – Khamlia – Nomad family – fossil Site – Tour of the dunes
After having breakfast, we will go on an exploratory tour in the surrounding areas of Merzouga. We will first see some black volcanic rocks and marble fossils. Then, we will visit a nomad family in their tent to learn about their traditions and share some of their practices. After that, we will head towards Khamlia, which is regionally known as the village of black people coming from Sudan, to visit Dar Gnawa (the house of Gnawa) and enjoy their music. Also, we will visit a seasonal lake called “Dayte Sarji”. If you like the birds of Flamingo, this lake will allow you to see them and take pictures of them. After a lunch break in either Merzouga or Hassi Labied, we will end today’s tour with riding camels through some sand dunes to enjoy a spectacular sunset. Night will be spent in a bivouac (camp) in the middle of the desert.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi Dune-Erfoud-Tinejdad-Todra Gorges-Boumalne Du Dades
We will wake up early so as to enjoy a fabulous sunrise from the top of a sand dune. Then, we will ride camels back to the hotel to have breakfast and take a shower. As you get ready, we will head towards Tineghir passing through the villages of Erfoud, Goulmima and Tinejdad. After lunch, we will continue our way to Todra gorges, a series of high limestone river canyons. In this unique place, you will have free time to explore its corners by yourself. Next, we will drive to Boumaln Dades and then to Kallat M’gouna, which hosted every May the Festival of Roses due to its large production of roses’ products. Night will be spent in the hotel.
Day 4: Boumalne Du Dades-Boutghrar-Valley of Roses-Kelaa M’gouna-Ouarzazate.
In the early morning, we will leave the hotel towards Ouarzazate passing through Boutghrar, Kalaa M’gouna and Skoura. Along the way, we will stop in many breathtaking places. The first of them will be the impressive Dades gorges with its beautiful and different rocks formations. Our second station will be in the tent of a nomad family with whom you will engage in some cultural conversations to learn about their traditions and customs as well as help them in some of their daily activities like making bread, bringing water from the well or cooking. After that, we will travel along the valley of roses until we reach Kalaa M’gouna. After having lunch in this city, we will continue our way to Skoura where we will stop to visit 17th century Kasbah of Amridil. After exploring the Kasbah, we will head to Ouarzazate to have dinner and check into your hotel.
Day 5 : Ouarzazate-Ait benhaddou-Telouet-Tizi N’tichka Pass- High Atlas Mounatins-Marrakech.
After having breakfast, we will walk a little inside the city and then explore the Kasbah of Taourirt and the Atlas film studios where many international films have been filmed. Following this, we will head toward the Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, a fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage. This Kasbah is well-known for being the setting for many famous films such as, Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. After having lunch in a local restaurant close to the Kasbah, we will visit another famous Kasbah called the Kasbah of Telouet. Then, we will drive towards Marrakech through Tizi N’tichka pass. Night will be spent in the hotel.
