Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah → Ouarzazate → Dades Gorges
(Driving ~380 km | ~7–8 hours with stops)
Your adventure begins at 8:00 AM with pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. We immediately head toward the High Atlas Mountains, climbing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m) with panoramic views and Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.
Mid-morning photo stops, then descend to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – the most famous fortified village in Morocco (featured in Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and many more). Enjoy a guided walk through the kasbah with a local guide.
Lunch in Ait Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate, then continue through the Valley of Roses and the palm oasis of Skoura. Late afternoon arrival at your beautiful hotel overlooking the dramatic Dades Gorges. Dinner and overnight in a charming kasbah-style hotel.
Day 2: Dades Gorges → Todra Gorges → Erfoud → Merzouga Erg Chebbi Dunes → Camel Trek & Luxury Desert Camp
(Driving ~270 km + camel trek)
After breakfast, we explore the twisting “Monkey Fingers” rock formations in Dades before driving to the breathtaking Todra Gorges – 300-meter-high red cliffs with a crystal-clear river below. Perfect for a short walk or climb.
Continue through Tinjdad and Erfoud (fossil capital of Morocco) toward the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Around 4:30–5:00 PM, you’ll meet your camel caravan for a magical 1–1.5 hour camel trek into the heart of the dunes.
Watch an unforgettable sunset from the top of the highest dune, then arrive at your private luxury desert camp. Enjoy mint tea, traditional Berber dinner, live music around the campfire under a sky full of stars. Sleep in a comfortable private tent with real beds, bedding, electricity, and en-suite bathroom with hot shower.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Rissani → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Azrou Cedar Forest → Ifrane → Fes
(Driving ~460 km | ~8 hours)
Wake up early (optional) for a spectacular sunrise over the dunes, then enjoy breakfast at the camp. Return by camel or 4×4 to meet your driver.
Drive through the desert towns of Rissani and Erfoud, then follow the lush Ziz Valley with its million palm trees. Lunch stop in Midelt, gateway to the Middle Atlas.
In the afternoon, enter the cool cedar forests near Azrou – home to wild Barbary macaques (monkeys). Short stop to feed and photograph them. Pass through Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco” with its alpine-style houses and clean streets.
Arrival in Fes around 6–7 PM. Check into your beautiful riad inside or near the ancient medina. Dinner on your own (your driver will recommend the best local restaurants).
Day 4: Full-Day Guided Tour of Fes → Drive to Chefchaouen (The Blue Pearl)
After breakfast, meet your official local guide for a full-day walking tour of Fes el-Bali – the largest car-free urban area in the world and a UNESCO site. Highlights include:
- Chouara Tanneries (the oldest leather tanneries in the world)
- Al-Qarawiyyin University (founded in 859 AD – oldest continuously operating university)
- Bou Inania & Attarine Medersas (stunning Islamic architecture)
- Nejjarine Fountain and Funduq
- The colorful souks and spice markets
Lunch in a traditional restaurant inside the medina.
Around 3:30–4:00 PM, depart Fes and drive north through the fertile plains and Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen (approx. 3.5 hours). Arrive in the early evening to this magical blue-washed mountain town. Check into your riad in the heart of the medina. Evening free to start exploring the blue streets at sunset.
Day 5: Chefchaouen → Rabat → Casablanca → Tour Ends
(Driving ~340 km | ~5–6 hours)
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Chefchaouen – the perfect time to wander the iconic blue and white streets, visit the Kasbah, shop for handmade wool goods, or hike to the Spanish Mosque for panoramic views (optional).
Around noon, depart south toward Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital. Quick stop to visit the Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the picturesque Oudayas Kasbah.
Continue along the Atlantic coast to Casablanca. Upon arrival, visit the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque – the largest in Africa and one of the few open to non-Muslims (guided tour included if timing allows).
